Global Gig Economy Creates On-The-Go Gig Workers

Graebel survey says most gig workers would relocate for international contract jobs

The global trend toward contract work is shifting the boundaries – literally – on the permanent, full-time employment norm, with predictions that more than half of employees will be contract or gig workers in the near future.

According to a three-country survey of 600 gig workers by Wakefield Research for Graebel Companies, Inc., 83 percent of gig workers are interested in relocating to another country for a contract job.

Gig workers in the three advanced-economy countries, in the U.K., the U.S. and Singapore, surveyed expressed similar motivations and expectations for relocating internationally, providing global companies with insights on how to court and cater to this new generation of workers.

The lure of taking on contract work abroad is strongest with Millennials – 95% of them would be interested in this opportunity. But gig workers won’t go just anywhere and take just any job. The survey uncovers interesting trade-offs they weigh between compensation and the desirability of the location.
